I have just recently seen the trailer for the Mary Poppins Returns movie and I am absolutely thrilled!

The original 1964 film was one of the first musical films I have watched and totally enjoyed. I loved the song numbers like “A Spoonful of Sugar” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” because of the melody and catchiness of the lyrics.

I would later love Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music, another musical that remains to be one of my favorite films of all time. She was perfect for the role of Mary Poppins and Maria. Despite some similarities in the roles of Mary and Maria (they both cared for their employers’ children), she was able to portray the characters really well and distinct from the other.

Going back, the sequel to the story I loved as a child excites me because Emily Blunt will play Mary Poppins this time. I could not have imagined any other lady to play the role other than her. She is able to hold herself with the grace and class that practically scream Mary Poppins. I have also heard her sing in Into the Woods and know that she would not disappoint should this be a musical film as well.

To make matters even better, Meryl Streep is also a member of the cast! She was absolutely adorable in Mamma Mia! Also, I have seen how well she and Emily Blunt worked together during The Devil Wears Prada back in 2006. Oh! This movie is going to be very exciting!

Other stars I am familiar with who are part of the film are Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury (Mrs. Potts from Beauty and the Beast animated film) and Julie Walters (Mrs. Weasley!). I just realized that Colin Firth, Meryl Streep and Julie Walters all starred in Mamma Mia! This will be so much fun!!!

Mary Poppins Returns is scheduled for release of December 25, 2018. Unfortunately, it will be the Metro Manila Film Festival season. I hope they will still show it in the Philippines come January.

Who else is excited for this film?
